Book your stay at MyBeachGetaways now; National Shrimp Festival 2017 is just 2 months away. Every October, nearly 250,000 people come to Gulf Shores Alabama for this long weekend celebration of the Gulf’s fruit of the sea – shrimp! In fact, Gulf Shores has been voted by Trip Advisor as one of the ‘Top 20 Small Towns with Unique Festivals.’ Jam-packed with things to do, see, hear and smell, there is something for everyone. But whatever you do while you in town, a newcomer has to try the ‘unofficial snack’ of the Shrimp Festival, the Cajun Pistol, a small French baguette stuffed with shrimp and served with a spicy sauce. Trust us, your taste buds will thank you!
The Food Boardwalk:
Over 50 different food vendors participate in the Shrimp Festival every year. Barbequed, fried, boiled, grilled, sautéed, steamed (starting to sound like Bubba Gump here) whichever shrimp serving style floats your boat, you will find it here on the boardwalk for sale. In addition to these booths, Festival’s Sponsors give away over 200lbs of Shrimp in various tasting tents. Delicacies include fried alligator and crawfish. However if you have “shrimp adverse” guests in your party, no worries, the festival has plenty of options. Note: the food prices are typical of festivals (little higher than the restaurant prices), so keep that in mind.
Arts & Crafts:
Get a jump on your Christmas shopping! The National Shrimp Festival 2017 features artists from around the country. Hundreds of items are for sale, from jewelry to clothing, home decor, art, crafts, photography, sculptures and more. Plenty to peruse while you walk off your shrimp and drink.
Music:
Four straight days on several stages! Live Music includes Country, Southern Rock, Jazz, Zydeco, Gospel and more.
Race:
Get your ‘run on’ in the 5K & 10K Shrimp Festival Races. This race has nearly 1,000 runners and is ADA compliant, so those who are in strollers and wheelchairs are allowed. Proceeds go to Coastal Alabama Schools.
Kids:
Children’s Activity Village: A free experience with free snow cones and popcorn. Plenty of activities for the kids to pass the time including face painting, arts and crafts, inflatables and more.
Golf:
Shrimp Festival Golf Tournament at the Kiva Dunes Golf & Beach Resort. Plenty of options and net proceeds go to Coastal Alabama schools.
