A Gulf Shores vacation has three basic requirements: beach, fun, and great eats. After this though, you might be ready to mix it up a little! Here are five things to do near Gulf Shores AL that you may not have considered in your previous trips.
USS Alabama Memorial Park
It’s a little off the beaten path, about an hour away from the My Beach Getaways Condos, but if you have boys (small or big) in your Gulf Shores vacation traveling party, the USS Alabama Memorial Park is a can’t miss excursion! The USS Alabama is a South Dakota-class battleship that received nine WWII Battle Stars. It was commissioned in 1942 and served in World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. The size of the ship is overwhelming; there is so much to see! It’s a great snapshot of what daily life was like during the war in a confined moving space. Next to it is the USS Drum, a 300-foot submarine that while smaller is also fun to explore. After these tours is a walk through the over 28 plus airplanes and helicopters on display in the aircraft pavilion. Let’s not forget the tanks (see we told you this place was amazing), they have several iconic models from World War II, Korea, and the Vietnam Wars in the collection.
Admission: Starts at $21 per person.

Foley Museum Archives Railroad Park
If you have little boys or grown up boys, this is the place for them. Located in an actual former L & N Railroad Depot, the Museum is a short 20 minutes drive north of Orange Beach. Outside are several trains to sit on and explore. Inside is large model train exhibit with miniature city dioramas.
Admission: Free, call ahead before leaving as the museum is open only on certain days from 10-2.

The Gulf Shores Museum & Butterfly Garden
Perfect for a rainy day excursion. The house dates to before World War II. It’s a small museum showing the history of the Gulf Shores area including an exhibit of the fisherman from the 1800s and postcards of the area to present.
Admission: Free.

Lambert’s Cafe
Have you ever caught a thrown roll hot and fresh from the oven? At Lambert’s the crazy part is that the staff throws rolls to the tables. Didn’t catch it? No problem, they will throw you another one. Two hundred dozen rolls are thrown every week and 300 dozen on the weekends. The food is great, but the big fun is just catching some rolls. Obviously, Lambert’s is a family friendly atmosphere!
Admission: The cost of a meal.

Blue Angels Practice Show
If you haven’t watched a Blue Angels air show, you’re in for a treat! It’s heart-pounding excitement watching the famous Blue Angels airplanes soar through the air doing their amazing acrobatics. The Naval Aviation Museum is a short 40-minute drive away in Pensacola from the Orange Beach condos. It’s free and lasts about 55 minutes. The show and museum are jaw dropping amazing!
Open daily except holidays 9am-5pm.
Admission: Free.
