5 Fun Things to Do For Spring Break
Mardi Gras – If you are fortunate enough to be in the area between February 22 and March 5, you can join the long-standing South Alabama tradition of celebrating Mardi Gras with world-class parades and parties. Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, and many of the other local towns nearby hold fun, family-friendly parades that both locals and visitors enjoy. Here’s a link to the parade schedule. If you don’t make it to a parade, be sure to pick up a king cake at one of our local grocery stores!
Festivals, festivals, and more festivals – There’s no question, the people of the Gulf Coast know how to put on a party! So if you happen to miss Fat Tuesday, fear not… you can still catch one of the many spring festivals happening in the area, including Ballyhoo, Elberta Sausage Festival, Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival, or the Zydeco & Crawfish Festival.
Attend a Show – The Wharf has several big shows this spring. They are hosting the Zac Brown Band on March 10, and tickets are still available. (Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Chesney are also scheduled for late spring.) You can also check out the Invasion Car Show or the Boat and Yacht Show in March.
Walk or Bike – The gorgeous Backcountry trail is ever expanding. It is mostly flat, but there are some places to summit for great views! Early spring is a great time to explore, with milder temperatures and fewer bugs.
Meet a Gator – Just up Highway 59, in Summerdale, you can have an up close and personal experience with the region’s toughest swamp dwellers. Live feedings at Alligator Alley start up in March
